Artist's Comments

Song of Roland fanart, since I always had this idea that Turpin would have been Roland's tutor when Roland was younger. BTW, this is basically autobiographical in subject matter, and since I'm about half-way through my summer Latin course now, it's pretty appropriate. Anyone who's been a beginner in Latin would probably sympathise with Roland.

Ah, Latin. My personal hell for the last three years, with one more coming up. I sympathise entirely.

why do you put yourselves through that kind of tourture?! words are words are words, and they keep changing day by day. Hardly anyone cares where they come from anymore. American rappers have probably made more new words in the past two years that people actually use than American high school students have learned in their english classes and use.

...

Wait, did that make sense?

Ah, for some reason my profs have this crazy idea that I might actually need to be able to read Latin in order to progress in Medieval Studies...:XD:
:iconzfreelance:
Oh dear. I think I would hurt myself laughing if this wan't so true. And just wait until Roland discovers the utter lack of sentance structure. But your art is absolutely fabulous!

well, *maybe*. what with the "thou"s and the "thee"s. yeah, I can see where you would need Latin. *has no idea what she just said, don't ask*

Also, if you can't understand what I just said, there's another good reason for Latin.

Close. Latin is the way to understanding Roman culture. It is also the language of the Catholics (who the Romans just called "men of Christ") Also, in English, it's hard to comprehend the thoughts of a Roman without Latin knowlage.
