Artist's Comments

The full title, ridiculously enough, is "Feuilly and Combeferre in the Interim, or The World as Seen from Within a Barricade." Refers to Part V, Book 1, Chapter ii, of Les Miserables ("What to do in a bottomless pit except talk?"), as well as Chapter xvii ("Interlude") of the same part and book. In which Combeferre acts as a field surgeon (barricade surgeon?) and Feuilly spends two hours carving "Long Live the People!" into a wooden beam with a nail. Done in ink and colored pencil, with the obligatory touch of gouache.

This is amazing...the coloring is so awesome! I love the blood. It's tasty. And 'ferre's expression is so haggard-looking, it's greaaaat....!

Bulletholes in the wall :)

Wow, this coloring is amazing! Does Feuilly really spend two hours carving that into a board? Go fan boy! :w00t:

That ROCKS! I am a complete Les Mis fanatic, and I ADORE your work! I saw your philosophical something art site while browsing, and fell in love with your awesome drawings of the mizzies! Yay!

wow, that is awsome! I love how you've drawn Combeferre on the whole, and Feuilly's message on the wall is utterly brilliant. I commend you for your excellent work, it has made my day!

This really is breathtaking. It's nice to see such a superb depiction of the characters nobody thinks of, being caught up in Enjolras's mincing of words and Marius's lovesick mewlings...the 'real' (er) people behind the barricade. Beautiful:)

It is probably not healthy to stare at pictures for too long, but there's so much stuff! Plus I was flicking through the barricade, saw the bottomless pit title, though `sounds like most of my life`, looked through, read the Combeferre bit, thought `that sounds even more familiar`, then suddenly realised it was connected to this! ...Not sure what that has to do with anything, but it fills up space I would normally use for drooling.

Instead I humiliate myself. Yay.

...

Love the piccie. Will make a mental note never to show it to my vampire/Spider-man/psycho/dark elf/whatever she is now friend, though. Blood makes her hyper.
